Glorious hot sunny day on the Test with beginner Josh and his dad Colin. Despite mayfly hatching all day fish didn’t move until the spinners started to fall in the evening. This gave plenty of time for Josh to learn to cast and how to approach and hopefully catch fish. This was good as the strong and gusty North East wind blowing down stream didn’t make it easy. When the spinners started dancing and falling in late afternoon, even the wind obligingly eased a bit and the fall built to a crescendo just before sunset. Fish were very fussy but Josh eventually got his first ever trout on a dry fly and his dad got a few too. Challenging first class day on the river.
