Kitimat , British Columbia 2019

Our September trip to our friends at the Kitimat Lodge in search of Coho certainly delivered some great memories for the teams involved. The first week which saw a lot of action focused on the Kitimat and Coastal rivers, kicked off in style with the whole group doming their Dinner Jackets and heading onto the Skeena to James Bond’s theme tuning ringing round the boat launch. Top location was the incredible ‘Jurassic Park’ which delivered consistently good catches of Coho in breath taking scenery. The approach by sea in the mist to the eerie river mouth really lived up to the name. Revealing a truly awesome valley as it cleared and the sun shone through.
The second week was defined by wet weather with rising, coloured rivers and high winds blowing out locations. Forcing the plans to change day by day. Our first being no exception. The week started with a day at sea in the Douglas Channel Crab, Halibut and Ling Cod fishing in brilliant sunshine with visits from Humpback Whales and Porpoises round the boat that made it a very special day indeed. The varied catch which also included Yellow Tailed and Spinney Rock Fish was prepared super fresh and on the supper menu was crab followed by deep fried Halibut and Ling Cod. A real treat! The head ache for the guides however didn’t get any better and they worked really hard to provide sport for us with endless rain blowing out rivers and forcing changes in plans constantly. Coho, Pink, Trout and Dolly Varden provided a rich and varied catch but the unicorn (Steelhead) eluded most of us. Can’t wait to do it again!!
